Explanation of the Tufting Process

1, First, you need to have a tufting gun. The key selection parameters are as follows:

Parameter Suggestions
Speed Adjustment Prioritize machines with adjustable speed; beginners can usually start practicing at lower speeds.
Grip Comfort Since the gun needs to be held for long periods, a lighter weight and skin-friendly materials such as silicone will make the process more comfortable for you.
Noise Level Choosing a machine with lower operating noise will make the entire tufting process more enjoyable.
Pile Height Adjustable tufting height allows you to create rugs with mixed textures, and different heights can serve various purposes.

The tufting gun we provide has the following features:
      1. Dual-color, dual-material overmolded handle for an attractive appearance and comfortable grip, reducing hand fatigue during prolonged use.
      2. Equipped with a DC brushless motor, offering advantages such as compact size, lightweight design, high power output, low noise, no sparks, and extended lifespan.
      3. Upgraded built-in contactless Hall-effect magnetic brake system, providing more stable braking performance and significantly extending service life.
      4. Newly upgraded digital display showing speed from 1000 to 6000 RPM, enabling more intuitive speed adjustment.
      5. Uses synchronous belt drive for low noise, long service life, and smooth power transmission.
      6. New eccentric wheel design with added counterweight for smoother operation and significantly reduced vibration.
      7. Built-in LED lighting at the front of the tufting gun for clear and bright illumination of the work area.
      8. New upgraded scissor-type re-cutting and closing mechanism, solving issues of vibration, noise, and uneven rug surface caused by blade collision during closure.

2, Second, you need a Carver Tools for trimming the rug.

Trimming is usually done manually or with electric tools. If you plan to make a larger rug, we recommend using a larger carpet shearing machine, as shown in the image below.

The handheld electric trimmer we provide is suitable for relatively smaller rugs and offers greater flexibility—it makes trimming edges, seams, and carving fine lines quick and easy.

3, You will also need a frame to stretch and secure the fabric.

Typically, fabric stretching frames are made of wood, and to keep the fabric taut, nails are usually placed around the edges to secure the fabric. Please be extremely careful during use to avoid injuring your hands.

4, Choosing a hot melt glue gun

If you want to add a carpet binding tape to the edges of your rug (we recommend adding border strips for larger rugs, while it's usually unnecessary for smaller ones), you'll need to attach the binding tape to the rug edges using hot melt adhesive. Any model of hot glue gun is suitable, so you can choose one that offers better cost-effectiveness.

      • You need to list the colors required according to your design and purchase the corresponding yarn colors and quantities.
Please note that yarn colors purchased online may have slight variations. Additionally, yarn is typically sold in rolls of at least 100 meters, which could lead to leftover yarn of certain colors—resulting in waste—while other colors might fall short when making different rugs. Therefore, when selecting yarn, carefully verify both the color and quantity.
To solve this issue, we have carefully matched the exact colors and quantities needed for our provided designs, using high-quality materials. This ensures no waste and eliminates the complexity of the selection process. We recommend choosing our design-specific yarn material kits.

      • You need to purchase Tufting Glue. Typically, Tufting Glue is available in 1kg containers. However, for a 50*50 cm rug, you usually only need about 0.2kg of glue.

To address this issue, we provide 0.5kg containers of carpet adhesive tailored to the specific designs we offer. Our glue is of reliable quality and has been certified by MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). This ensures you have an appropriate amount of glue without excess waste, while also guaranteeing its safety and effectiveness.

      • You need to select the appropriate tufting fabric.

We provide tufting fabric in sizes suitable for the specific designs we offer. This ensures that you have the right size of fabric for your project, eliminating the guesswork and ensuring a perfect match for your design.

      • You need to select a Backing Cloth With Antislip Coating.
We provide Backing Cloth With Antislip Coating in suitable sizes.

      • You need to select a Rug Binding Tape.
This is not a mandatory item, as we typically include appropriately sized Rug Binding Tape with each of our design patterns.

      • If you are making a cushion, you will also need to purchase PP cotton.
We will include an appropriate amount of PP cotton with the cushion design patterns.

During tufting, properly stretching the fabric is a critical step in ensuring the quality of your work. If the base fabric (backing cloth) is not taut, it can lead to uneven stitches, inconsistent pile depth, distorted patterns, and may even damage your tools or fabric. Below are the specific requirements and precautions for stretching the fabric:

Requirement Description
Use a fabric stretching frame A sturdy embroidery hoop or tufting frame must be used.
Smooth and wrinkle-free fabric surface There should be no wrinkles, sagging, or waviness.
Uniform and high tension The fabric should be stretched to a "drum-like" tightness, with no indentation when pressed.
Re-tighten during the process Regularly check and re-tighten the fabric tension during operation.

Usually, you will need to purchase a projector to trace your desired design onto the fabric. However, if you have strong drawing skills, you may choose not to use a projector and instead draw freehand.

Alternatively, you can print the design and then attach it to the back of the fabric, tracing over it from the front side.

      • Installing the Needle and Base Plate:

        • Install the loop pile base plate or cut pile base plate according to the desired effect.
        • Ensure the needle and blade (for cut pile) are properly installed and all screws are securely tightened.
      • Adjusting Needle Depth:

        • Set the needle depth to the middle position when using for the first time. Test a few stitches and then fine-tune as needed.
        • Goal: The needle should penetrate the backing fabric without damaging the stretching frame, and the loops on the back should be uniform in length (approximately 3–5mm).
      • Connecting Power and Foot Switch (if applicable):

        • Use a foot switch to control power on/off, freeing up your hands and improving efficiency.
      • Operating Techniques:

        • Start from the edge of the design and fill in the area line by line.
        • Hold the tufting gun perpendicular to the fabric surface, move at a steady speed, and keep the needle stable.
        • Stitch density: Slightly overlap adjacent stitches to ensure no gaps.
        • Changing colors: Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 10cm; for the new color, either tie a knot or weave in the end later.
      • Precautions:

        • Keep the backing fabric taut throughout the process; pause periodically to check tension.
        • Avoid repeatedly piercing the same spot to prevent damage to the backing fabric.

      • Trimming yarn ends: Trim the yarn tails evenly on both the front and back sides (for cut pile rugs, you may also trim the surface to make it smoother).
      • Remove the pattern paper (if used): Gently peel off the pattern paper attached to the surface.
      • Backing reinforcement (optional):
        • Apply carpet latex backing (Latex Backing) or attach a non-slip pad to prevent yarn from loosening and to stop the rug from slipping.
        • Allow to dry for more than 24 hours.
  • Stretch the fabric extremely tight

The surface should be drum-tight with no wrinkles.

  • Needle depth should be moderate

Loops on the back should be uniform, without piercing through the fabric.

  • Move the tufting gun at a steady speed

    To avoid uneven stitch density.

  • Yarn should feed smoothly

    To prevent tangling or breaking.

  • Safety first

Keep fingers away from the needle
